Not uncommonly, gallstones may exit from the gallbladder and enter the cbd. From there, stones may pass uneventfully into the gut, block the liver, or the pancreas; this can cause serious liver infections (cholangitis) or pancreatitis. Rx requires endoscopic removal of the cbd stone (ERCP) and removal of the gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy).
