HealthTap vs Others

Telemedicine apps

While there are other telemedicine apps out there (some might even be recommended by your employer or insurance company), most do not offer you the chance to choose and develop a long-term video-based relationship with one amazing doctor that you learn to trust and adore for all your everyday health concerns. They'll usually connect you with a random nurse or doctor that doesn't know you or your history each time. Some other apps only let you text chat with a Care Team, rather than text with your specific doctor.

Primary care clinics

Many primary care clinics, including newer ones like OneMedical, are only available to Americans in certain cities where they have locations. That leaves most in this country without convenient access. On top of that, they tend to be a lot more expensive unless your employer or insurance company pays for their visits. HealthTap is affordable anywhere in the country with any insurance or benefit! And if you need in person care, we'll refer you to a local provider!

Concierge medicine doctors

HealthTap doctors ARE concierge medicine doctors — they're just way more affordable so you don't have to be rich and famous to benefit from having your own doctor at your fingertips. HealthTap is concierge medicine for every American.

Frequently asked questions

What does insurance cover?

It's up to your insurance plan (and how much of your deductible you have remaining) to determine how much of your HealthTap visit will be covered. Before each visit, we'll check with your insurance company to give you an estimate in real time. We'll submit any claims to your insurance company, and will only charge you up front for the part we think your insurance won't cover. But, don't worry! HealthTap prices are designed to be affordable even if you need to pay for them completely on your own. So you'll never be slammed with surprise bills. By the way, insurance plans don't cover the HealthTap subscription at this time — just the visit fees!

What do prescription medications cost?

The pharmacy you'll choose will decide the cost of your prescriptions, and your insurance plan will decide how much they'll help cover. We try to make your life easier and more affordable by: prescribing lower cost generic versions, helping you compare prices at different pharmacies, and giving you coupons that can save you up to 75% on your drugs.

What do lab tests cost?

The local lab where we order your test will decide the cost of your test, and your insurance plan will decide how much they'll help cover. It's a good idea to ask the lab ahead of time so you know what costs to expect.

What will it cost me if I see another doctor or clinic outside of HealthTap?

Since you're getting care from somewhere else, we don't know what they'll charge you and if you have any insurance that will cover any part of it. When finding a provider, it's best to first check with your insurance company which ones are "in network." Second, it's good to always ask the doctor how much your copays will likely be after your visit.
