1 u will do!: Any prudent diet will work if you stick with it. Weight watchers is a good way to diet and count calories. There are many others. If one will just cut back 500 calories a day, one shold lose 1/2 pound a week and thus 26 pounds in a year. Who wouldn't want to sign up today knowing in a year they would be 26 pounds lighter? Use reason, common sense and perserverance. Do it!

Varies: Men can lose weight easier than women due to the increased muscle mass but if not done carefully, men often lose muscle mass resulting in more body fat. Eat 500cal less per day, exercise 150min/week with weight training at least 2x/week, eat protein rich and good carbs, avoid the alcohol since you lose muscle mass and drink water.

Lifestyle change: Get a man into the gym and/or into some strenuous fitness activity that he enjoys, have him make friends with men who share his fitness goals and are a little more advanced, don't try to manage his weight loss for him, get him comfortable eating with his new friends and accepting their advice, and expect the change in behavior and attitude to be mirrored in permanent weight loss.
