Splinting teeth -- when is this needed?

When they wiggle.: If teeth start to wiggle that means they are loosing support needed to keep them tight. Splinting (attaching) wiggly teeth to strong stable teeth helps you keep the wiggly ones by spreading out the biting pressures over several teeth and not the few. The wiggly ones could even tighten up if treatment is give or by giving the a "rest" from hard biting forces. Earl.

Trauma / loose teeth: Splinting teeth would be required when there is trauma to a tooth or in some cases where a tooth may be loose from severe gum disease then the tooth may be splinted to other teeth to try to stabilize it.
