Anterior displacemen: I assume that your disc is still anteriorally displaced and you have closed locking of the jaw joints. Hard to say without a history and exam. I would certainly inform the dentist/specialist who delivered you the splint and ask for options. I do some specialized treatment to conservatively get the mandible backward to try and get the teeth touching in the posterior again. Hope they do too!

No: If your teeth are occluding only in the front you have probably had some intrusion of the posterior teeth as a result of the appliance. I suggest seeing your dentist asap. This is not a good situation.

When is there pain?: If your bite is ok with the splint in then your joint may be recaptured, but if you still have limited opening and pain with the appliance in then the joint may not be ok. Your doctor can see the disc with an MRI and let you know. If the joint is ok, then treat the teeth to fit together at the functional position. If the joint is not ok you have a different situation entirely and are not ready.

Not normal: Not normal. See the dentist who made the splint. If no satisfaction, get second opinion from TMJ expert.
