Second opinion:: From another orthodontist. Discussing the reasons why, and treatment objectives with your parents present would be important to better understand each clinician's reasoning as well as to compare similar opinions vs. Differing opinions. Also if the determination for orthodontia is confirmed - discuss invisalign teen an option as well.

"needing" braces: Most people do not "need" braces as that type of phrase is best for those with bite issues. Explain to your orthodontist why you "want" braces. If you are not happy with the answer you get then get your parents to seek a second opinion.

Are you happy?: If you are happy with the way your teeth look and your orthodontist says you dont need treatment it now falls on your lap! do you want to get your teeth stright?

Trust orthodontist: It is their specialty. Need and want, however, can mean two different things. If you are concerned about the aesthetics of your smile, even if braces are not "needed" i'm sure the orthodontist would be happy to work with you.

Try another opinion: As with any profession, orthodontists are a product of their background, experience, and education, which can vary widely. As a result, it is possible that one orthodontist might view something in a malocclusion that another might not. It would be prudent to seek the consultation of another orthodontic opinion, and possible a third, until the answers you receive clarify your dentists' concerns.

2nd opinion: It is your general dentist who has initiated this scenario, but: do you have any functional or cosmetic complaints? If you do, consider 2 opinions of certified specialists. If you go for more, you may become more confused than enlightened. If you have no complaint yourself, this will be satisfactory.

Seek 2nd opinion: If 2, or even 3, Orthodontists give you the same advice, heed it. Ask the Orthodontist to talk to your Dentist tao ask what are your Dentist's concerns.
