Not necessarily...: Depending on exactly where the cavity is, the wire may or may not need to be temporarily removed. Have your dentist take a look to see if you actually need a restoration.

Family Dentist: Please call your Dentist for an evaluation. If the Dentist determines that you have a cavity that needs treatment, and if the brace on the tooth is in the way, the Dentist will ask your Orthodontist to remove the brace so the cavity can be fixed. The Orthodontist will then replace the brace and continue with your Orthodontic care.

See a Dentist: Depending upon the location of the defect, some fillings can be done without removing the hardware or braces, while others may need a bracket removed. See a general dentist for filling. Of course, your orthodontist, will monitor your braces.
