Why did my orthodontist tighten my braces every 2 weeks?

To move your teeth: As your teeth move from the pressure the wires are placing on them, the wire no longer exerts adequate force. The wires are "tightened" to continue the moving process.

Teeth movement: Everyone's treatment is different, there are different types of braces and wires, and orthodontists have different treatment philosophies and techniques. There is no one set of rules for frequency of tightening the braces. If concerned ask your orthodontist for more information.

Experience/training: Your Orthodontic Specialist's training & experience dictated that you needed more frequent adjustments. Some patients need to be seen weekly, others at 6-8 week intervals. Ask your Orthodontist why...remember that no 2 malocclusions are exactly alike. Orthodontic Specialists are trained to recognize these nuances and therefore the most effective treatment.
