Discuss with DDS: Ask your dentist to explain exactly what he\she is going to do and how. Discuss specifically exactly what your fears are concerning the procedure. Most people fear the possibility of pain or think that it is a surgical procedure similar to an extraction of the root. Neither fear is warranted. You should be 100% numb and not feel anything.

Root canal: Root canal is usually a painless procedure. It should be less painful than a cleaning. Try eating well before the procedure and do some breathing exercises to relax. Ask your dentist to confirm.

Easy procedure: Once you are given an injection (or two) of a local anesthetic, you will not feel a thing. Root canal therapy is a basic procedure and not something to worry about.

Competent Dr: If your dr. Has a good reputation , root canals can be performed without pain the procedure should be no different for you than getting a filling. It takes longer than a filling, but that's all. Your fears are worse than the procedure!
