Possibly both: Weight training can lead to increased muscle mass which can increase your basal metabolic rate, so that you ultimately lose body fat. Increased muscle mass can potentially add to your weight, but if weight training is part of a fitness program which includes improved diet and cardiovascular exercise, you will likely lose weight over the long term.
