My 17 yr old son had a hida scan yesterday. it came out showing his function was 80%. he has been having symptoms of gallbladder issues for two weeks. throwing up or nausea after eating, and upper right quadrant pain. do i need to look into removal?

No, there is no reason to have gallbladder removed yet, the workup should be extended to other possible causes for his symptoms, keep his pediatrician involved in further decisions.

The underlying cause should be determined. Keep him well hydrated. Monitor temperature and breathing. If he is overweight, he is at higher risk. Watch the signs of worsening pain and please follow up with your physician.
