A member asked:

According to my echo exams, in 2013 my ef was 71 percent. in 2015 it was 61 percent. is it normal for ef to decline that much in 2 years? does it fluctuate or just keep going down? does this mean i have chf? i have appt. for new echo this month?

EF above 50% is considered normal so most echo report will give result EF above 50%, not commonly reported in details as your result. EF above 71% implies hyperdynamic heart and it is usually present in patient with hypertension so 71% does not mean better than 61%. You should only concern if EF drops below 50%. Furthermore, there is significant variability in sonographers and interpreters.
