Dyspnea and edema in legs for 9 months. no smoking, had lung function test with and without bronc. 100% normal. spitting up phlegm 2-3 times a day, ct with contrast and x-ray shows no pulmonary edema. no chf. echo normal any ideas? i hate this?

Another cause of fluid retention can come from kidney malfunction. Have your Dr's looked at your kidney function? It is possible with reduced kidney function that fluid is retained and causes shortness of breath, as well as edema in legs. Make sure you go back to your Dr and ask "what next?". Since you do not yet have a diagnosis, and they have ruled out heart problems, you need additional testing

Renal and a D Dimer test are recommended. If you are obese, eat a healthy diet and exercise if approved by your physician. Asthma is less likely based on your normal PFTs, but can not be ruled out, and clinical correlation is suggested. Allergy testing may be performed by blood test/ a phlegm sample obtained for additional tests. The negative testing is reassuring. Nasal saline dec post nasal drip
