There are several: aspects to this: from how you should prepare (water/food/flashlight/battery radio/first aid kit) to what you should do (dressing warmly/waterproof boots/no travel/winterized vehicle, etc) to what to do after the storm. All of this is perfectly summarized at redcross.org winter storm safety checklist. Good wishes:)

Snow & Ice prep: Avoid frostbite and slipping on ice by wearing well-insulated gloves and clothing. Wear boots w/good treads. Have lots of snow melt product on hand to sprinkle on the ground. Insulate pipes in the home so that they don't burst and you are w/out water or heat when they are getting repaired. Peace and good health.

Dress warm: Good cold weather gear is essential, warm and breathable with water and wind protection is the best bet. Good gloves and hats are important. Do not overlook good footwear for what ever you are doing. Disposable warmers are ok but but electric ones serve better.
