I just ate some ice cream and i started coughing. i do this a lot with other cold things such as smoothies, snow cones, and especially rita's. why?

Reflex-cough: The cold of the ice cream may activate hypersensitive cough receptors in some people. The cough receptors are found throughout your posterior pharyngeal area and the cold may stimulate them in your case. This is not uncommon and happens in many people.
