Prepare topic well: It is common to have stage fright, especially when you are doing it without much prior experience. This will go away with further practice in public speaking. One reason for fear is to go to give a lecture when you are not well prepared. So the best trick to be confident is to know your subject so well that the audience can be spell bound. This requires that you know more than the audience does.

Imp audience=bigfear: Ways to overcome: make sure you practice well in front of the mirror loud, have some backup material ready in case you forget your lines, visualize your audience as not so important. Best strategy: When you feel anxious while presenting, consider pausing more frequently. A few strategic pauses (taking few sips of water) between points have calming effect. Will help regain composure.

CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.
