A member asked:

A year after tb meningitis my 22yr gf can go upstairs with no or minimal support but she has fear of falling while walking straight so she doesn't try and she screams so loud sometimes. please advise

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anxiety, panic: It's only natural for her to be fearful given her history of TB meningitis. Her fear of falling is overpowering the objective fact that she has physically improved. She should be seen by a psychotherapist who could help engage her in cognitive behavioral therapy to overcome this hurdle in her recovery. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/panicdisorder.html
