Gingivits or perio?: A treatment of gingivitis is a good regular cleaning and good home care. A treatment of periodontitis (progression of bone loss or attachment) required a deep cleaning, occlusal adjustment, follow up and/or surgery to control the disease. Gingivitis takes anywhere from 1 day to a week to heal. Periodontitis must be evaluate and compare radiographically in 4-6 months to determine the outcome.
