Bleeding gums indicate either a blood dyscrasia or gum disease, which is an infection. Even if you see no swelling, the bleeding indicates you have uncontrolled infection. Gum disease implicated in stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, early pregnancy termination, and so much more. If it's more than 6 months since your last professional cleaning, you are overdue.
