A member asked:

Celiac artery stent placed 2yrs ago. stenosis thought to be from scar tissue, not plaque. 2yrs later, stenosis has worsened & i may need another stent.what is the purpose of stents if they tend to worsen stenosis from inflammation?will this keep recur

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vascular stents ?'s: A celiac stent is unusual b/c the blood supply is very redundant to the intestinal circulation. The bowel is not just subject to stenosis in one area, as there must be other areas perhaps a result of prior infection or the symptoms would not be there in the first place. If bowel circulation is compromised, stents are appropriate, but you may need more definitive surgery at some point.
