Tread carefully: If you have multiple discs degenerating the best strategy is stay thin and learn about good core stabilization exercises. Many people use anti-inflammatory medications when pain is an issue.

No surgery!: Multiple bulging discs is the main cause for 'failed back surgery'. Bulging of discs is a normal phenomenon of aging and only if it causes nerve compression and leg radiculopathy (radiating pain), can a decompression improve things. The back needs gently daily stretching, sometimes some anti inflammatories and healthy core muscle without being overweight to protect it.
