Spread of infection: A pimple or acne breakout represents a localized skin infection. When you manipulate it to try to "pop" it, you run the risk of spreading the infection and inflammation to the adjacent area and developing scarring or pigmentation after the area heals. Depending on how big the bump now is, try a warm compress and call your doctor for an evaluation to see how best to treat the bump.
