Acute: Acute healing is done in a week or two, and most people take a week off of work. Two weeks of no heavy lifting or strenuous activity, and 6 weeks before the nasal bones are full strength. Yet, it takes a year for all of the healing to finish.

You : You may want to take about a week off work if you have both a rhinoplasty and septoplasty at the same time. It's best to have the rhinoplasty concurrently as it's very common to use the cartilage harvested during a septoplasty to do some of the rhinoplasty work.

Rhinoplasty postop: After rhinoplasty it is imperative to keep your head elevated and to use cool compresses. These two things will help reduce and avoid excessive edema after nasal surgery.

No: Everyone is different, but most patients complain more of a stuffy nose than pain after septoplasty and rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty: That depends on extent of defect or injury. Your ENT surgeon can explain all that in details.

Absolutly: Rhinoplasty is offen done with septoplasty and turbinate surgery.

i had a septoplasty/rhinoplasty two months ago with a cartilage graft at the tip. the tip is painfully swollen and i haveblister like things in my nostrils. what should i do?

Accepted Answer

If red sore see doc: It's not unusual for the nose to be swollen and sore after surgery.  Can last several months as it heals.  If there are blisters and fluid leaking from skin you should see your doctor.   If the "blister like things" are little firm knots in nose they will resolve and nothing to worry about.

in a rhinoplasty or septoplasty is there something that stays inside your nose like implants stay inside breasts in breast augmentations?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Permanent implants are not likely to be placed with either rhinoplasty and almost never with septoplasty.  Ask your surgeon about his (her) technique and exactly how he (she) plans to operate.  Certainly, splints and sometimes absorbable packing is used.  But these are usually removable at the first post-op office visit.

for plastic surgeons, i have had a rhinoplasty and then corrective septoplasty. still, my nose is not straight. my septum is not aligned w/ my center lip by mm. im curious if filler could move the tip of my nose to appear aligned with my cupids bow?

The body changes...: Plastic Surgeons are not God.  The body changes as people get older. The body one has as a child is not the same as a teenager or 30 year old and will not be the same at the age 50 or 70. Best to enjoy the body one has at every stage and keep it healthy without prejudice to beauty.

how bad is the recovery from turbinectomy? is it as painful as septoplasty (involves bleeding,pain etc.)?

Not bad at all : My patients do great and really like the procedure. I offer a version of it that is done in the office or it can be done under general anesthesia. It can be quite effective. Generally there is some mild oozing after and regular Tylenol (acetaminophen) is enough to cover the pain.
