Depends: Ask your surgeon. The recovery is not too bad. Feels like a stuffy, headcold feeling. Swelling takes a year to fully resolve, but most people only take a week off from school or work. No heavy lifting for two weeks, and no contact sports for 4-6 weeks.

Surgeon's preference: In many situations the choice of an open or closed approach will be surgeon's preference or experience. Typically an open approach is we'd for greater visualization. Of more complex confirms that may be difficult to manage through a closed approach. However many surgeons are highly skilled at the closed approach. So the best way to know is to ask and express your preferences as well.

Rhino approaches: The choice of approach will come down largely to surgeon preference, and this is definitely something to discuss with your surgeon prior to proceeding with surgery.
