Received results from blood tests. when i asked the doctor my bloody type, he said he wasn't allowed to tell me. surely that's not true?.

Misunderstanding: If your physician is like some folks i know, it's perhaps a joke. Patients have an absolute right to all their medical information. However, routine labs don't test the abo/rh blood type.
