A member asked:

I had possible herpes 2 exposure, no lesions & took igm and igg blood tests 2 weeks after the incident. both were negative. did i test too early? it is now 32 days post exposure, still no lesions. do i need to retest?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Herpes I or II: Testing with IgM and IgG "two weeks after possible exposure" with "negative results" may be a bit too early to detect antibody production against H I or H II. Test again after another month to be certain. Herpes virus is often present even with no visible sores in the mouth or genital areas, so transmission is possible.
