I recently underwent a endoscopy/colonoscopy procedure. my doctor said after seeing my biopsies that i had "underlying" colitis. what is that?

Ask the doctor: What he/she means. Unless there is a pathology report to go on, I do not know what your doctor is thinking or considering. Wait for the pathology report & see your doctor for a follow up to discuss the findings.
