Normal pigment: Slight browning by the gum line is just a variation the normal pigment of the gum. These pigment actually changes over time. Do not be alarm. It is not pathological.

Have it checked: It could be surface stain, discolored composite or calculus formation. Only way to know for sure is to have a dentist take a look at it.

Inflamed: It sounds like you have gingivitis or gum inflammation/infection. See your dentist for help. You can , in the meantime, take homeopathic hypericum and swish and spit with half and half mouthwash and peroxide to decrease some of the inflammation. You may need antibiotics. Do not put this off as i the longer it goes the worse it gets!

Unsure: Do you have pain with your gums and has this lasted awhile? Did you recently have your teeth bleached at the dental office or use a take home kit? Did you change toothpastes or have you taken some new meds or supplements? I know- a lot of questions, but you need to see a dentist and get to the source of the problem.
A female asked:

Is superglue or epoxy dangerous to use a drop on your gums? I can't afford a dentist. I have no income at this time. Got a front plate (?) off of amazon.Com that is supposed to fit right over your teeth and stay. Im missing my two front teeth, and as opp

I : I don't think this would hurt your gums, but neither do I think it wil help to hold the plate in place. Superglue doesn't bond well to damp surfaces like the gums, so i don't think it will accomplish your goal. Furthermore, the clumps of superglue left on the plate itself may cause irritation of the gums. Unfortunately, there are no dental schools in the san diego area; your nearest one is usc. If you can get yourself there, you could probably find a dental student who needs to make a denture for his or her training program, and who might do it for little or no money. Ucsd (and maybe also sdsu, which is right there near la mesa) have pre-dental programs, and may sponsor low-cost or free dental clinics. You might also search the web for free dental care san diego--i did a quick search and found several sites that might be able to help. One final option to consider is a visit to tijuana--there are quite a few dentists there who work on folks from the us, and who do good work at relatively low cost. You can take the trolley to the border and walk across.

This : This type of question is so difficult to answer without a physical exam with radiographs. Since you appear to have delta dental insurance, find a dentist in your area that you are comfortable with and have them examine you. They can best explain what your treatment options are and can determine what insurance coverage you have and how that coverage will defray the cost of the dental treatment you need. Best of luck to you.
