Hypertophic Scar: Yes you can treat hypertrophic scars. There are a number of options. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to address your individual needs. They may range from scar revision, to scar massage, pressure dressings, steroid injections, and/or silicone sheeting.

Absolutely: You cannot eliminate them but the height or projection of the scar can be improved. Hypertrophic scars respond to pressure so firm taping over the scar or a pressure garment works really well to flatten existing scars. Triamcinoline injections into the scar will flatten them over several weeks.

Scar treatment: You can have a scar excised (removed) in hopes that the new scar would be less notable. However there is a chance that it could recur as a keloid again. You could help prevent this with silicone stick or gel.
