Not meds alone: Medications alone will not solve this problem, yet your psychiatrist may have been trying to ease your way into working on this. You can also benefit from talk therapy with a psychologist/other psychotherapist to explore & deal with your anxieties and other possible issues. Working with such a therapist will allow you to develop specific ways of improving your situation. Good luck!

Anxiety: Other solutions are uncovering the causes of your change in life style and developing new coping strategies to return to your social self. If you can't accomplish this with friends consult with a mental health professional who specializes in treating anxiety. In addition exercise daily and maintain good nutrition as well. Best wishes.

Psychotherapy: It is troubling that the first response of some docs is to throw meds at a problem without any real attempt to understand it. You used to be social and happier-- obviously something changed. You would benefit from understanding why. See a psychologist who will talk to you about what is going on in your life and help you understand. Psychotherapy (talk therapy) may be the best "medicine".
