"Biological Bandaid": In many instances the dead skin can act as a biological "band-aid" as long as it remains clean and sterile beneath the dead skin. Increased redness or drainage with any odor requires treatment and possible surgical debridement and removal. It will likely heal with a scar that depends on the location, depth, and amount of dead tissue. Keep in close follow-up, with your physician and report changes.

The dead skin: Will eventually turn into a scab, and slough off. The resulting open area will then have to heal in. Dressing care each day may be required if the open area is significant in size.
