Infection: Simply put, dry mouth is the lack of a normal amount of saliva in your mouth while thrush is an overgrowth/infection of they yeast that is a normal inhabitant of your mouth. Both can have similar symptoms.

Differential Dx: Dry mouth is simply the actual or perceived feeling of less saliva in your mouth. It can be caused by many medical conditions and medications. Thrush is caused by a fungal infection and appears as a white plaque or coating. They can occur at the same time. If you suspect either, consult with your own dentist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Dry mouth and thrush: Dry mouth or xerostomia is a condition where the salivary flow is decreased usually caused by medication taken to manage chronic medical conditions. Thrush or candidiasis is a condition in which the fungus Candida albicans accumulates on the lining of your mouth. Dry mouth can be alleviated with several OTC items but thrush will require an RX for the infection.
