A member asked:

I have on and off mild oral thrush since i was 17. no underlying disease. doctor says its simply from dry mouth. does this sound plausible? i smoke

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Saliva is v. helpful: It's quite possible that indeed your dry mouth is contributing to your thrush. The smoking habit doesn't help either. I would definitely try to quit. You can take steps to increase mouth moisture-such as preventing dehydration. Saliva contains antimicrobial compounds that prevent conditions like thrush from taking hold. See if u can keep water around you to sip throughout the day-see if that helps
