A member asked:

On echo, septum size is 0.97 cm with normal limits less than 1.2 cm and post. wall thickness is 0.9 cm with normal limits less than 1.2 cm. ef =60% according to the above data does this person have lvh, hcm, or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Echocardiograph criteria for the diagnosis of LVH use LV mass & body surface area measurements. For hypertrophic cardiomyopathy a segment of LV wall of 1.5 cm qualifies. Features of aortic and mitral valve movement are used to distinguish hypertensive cardiomyopathy ( nonobstructive cardiomyopathy) from obstructive or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. I hope this answers your question.
