A member asked:

What causes tiny thyroid nodules under 5mm & 5mm complex cyst with in thyroid cartlidge if ultrasound shows benign lesions & all thyroid function is normal and antithyroglobulin & antithyroperoxidase antibodies are within normal limits?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The concern here would be nonthyroid pathology within the thyroid cartilage. Since a biopsy from this complex cyst is needed for a definitive tissue diagnosis, I'm unclear as to how an ultrasound makes a diagnosis of nonmalignancy if I understand the report correctly. . I recommend consulting an ENT specialist for evaluation & advice. I'd like advice such as is a biopsy recommended? CT scan? MRI?
