Had an urethral swab (male). swab was very large (had it before), severe pain, bloody sample. two antibiotics were prescribed. should i be worried? was the wrong swab used? doctor was an urologist?

It is not unusual the swab is bloody when urethritis is present (the mucosa is inflamed so it is quite friable). No, it is not due to the swab. Hope you get better soon with antibiotics and remember to practice safe sex for STD recurrence. Good luck.

Some times a rough handling while obtaining the sample can traumatize the lining of the urinary tube. Most of the time it heals normally in a week or so. Icant say whether it was the wrong swab or not without seeing it. You should heal well
