A member asked:

What can cause the left kidney and ureter to be dilated? there is no infection, stone or hydronephrosis. i keep having a discomfort on my side and this is what the er doc told me. i was told to visit a urologist to get a cystoscopy?

The definition of hydronephrosis includes a dilated kidney and ureter, most often due to a blockage down the line in the far end of the ureter. The urologist can help sort this out with the procedure and decide on the best approach to treatment.

Kidney area dilatation means Hydro nephrosis. There can be several causes- lower ureteral stricture ureter dilatation , congenital dilatation something from outside pressing on that side etc. Best to see a Urologist who will decide what needs to be done.
