A member asked:

Good evening doctors. with regard to urine assessment, are dipsticks valid and reliable enough to check blood and protein, or is it better to do urinanalysls?

Dipstick urine test can be used for a quick assessment in certain acute conditions but for most conditions, formal urinalysis and further specific urine test need to be done for confirmation. Give example: a urine dipstick is fine for a quick diagnosis of bladder infection but for a routine physical exam in the office, a positive urine dipstick for any abnormality will require confirmatory test(s)

There has to be a valid reason for urine assessment in any fashion. If there is a valid reason then dipsticks are the first step- They have false positive and false negatives as many other tests do. Urine chemistry is much more accurate.
