Dipstick urine test can be used for a quick assessment in certain acute conditions but for most conditions, formal urinalysis and further specific urine test need to be done for confirmation. Give example: a urine dipstick is fine for a quick diagnosis of bladder infection but for a routine physical exam in the office, a positive urine dipstick for any abnormality will require confirmatory test(s)

There has to be a valid reason for urine assessment in any fashion. If there is a valid reason then dipsticks are the first step- They have false positive and false negatives as many other tests do. Urine chemistry is much more accurate.
