Yes, if the urine concentration was different when test was done. For a patient with mild proteinuria (albuminuria is the correct term because dipstick test only detects albumin), if urine is diluted, e.g. specific gravity is less than 1.005, the dipstick test can be negative. The formal urinalysis method also uses the dipstick but the result is read by the machine, not your naked eyes. Take care.
