This dipstick test result is abnormal but its significance depends on the urine specific gravity, i.e. urine is concentrated or diluted. A formal urinalysis should be done to confirm/rule out microscopic hematuria (more than 3 red blood cells/hpf by microscopic exam) and if trace or 1+ protein is still present when specific gravity less than 1.020, urine albumin/creatinine (UACR) needs to be done.
