SLE: That is an excellent question. There are defined criteria set forth by the American College of Rheumatology and SLICC. A person is diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus when there is biopsy proven lupus nephritis a kidney condition and positive ANA or dsDNA tests for anti Sm , complement, phospholipid also added OR a clinician can identify 4 of several clinical criteria. Good luck to you!
