A member asked:

What is considered sudden weight gain? i gained 40 pounds in 2.5 years, and i'm worried that it's something serious like ovarian cancer, but i don't know how much or how fast i would gain it in that case. bloodwork is normal and i have hoshimoto's?

Weight gain over 2.5 years would not be sudden. In general malignancies or cancers are accompanied by other symptoms and weight loss would be much more common than weight gain. Start with PCP as work up might be needed for common causes for weight gain.

Your weight gain makes it highly unlikely that you have ovarian or any other cancer. 40 pounds over 2.5 years is not sudden, but if you do not make effort to lose weight, it is likely to keep increasing. Joining a support group like weight watchers may help.
