There are problems and then their solutions. What you need to do is to find a Gyn at an Academic med center and consult her/him and get treated. In some cases it can be cured and in all cases treated with relief. So whoever told you that is incorrect. Wish you good health.

Endometriosis is treatable, and can be managed in some cases by surgery, and others by oral contraceptives. Surgery options include removal of ovaries and uterus in extreme cases, and/or laparoscopic intervention done at the time of your menses , to cauterize implants of tissue. Ask you GYN physician for guidance at "age 47", as some solutions will fit your life plans better than others.
