A leiomyosarcoma can be difficult to distinguish from a benign fibroid and this possibility should always be considered in a patient with a rapidly growing uterine fibroid. But only about 0.23–0.7% of apparently benign uterine fibroids turn out to be leiomyosarcomas on pathological examination. A MRI of the abdomen and pelvis can be done in 3 months to confirm the benignity of this common tumor.
