"Caliectasia" describes a condition in the kidney "calyces" of an early form of hydronephosis (a "backup" of urine caused by obstruction of the ureter by a stone or ureteritis) and the cause needs prompt attention or it can lead to kidney failure.

I agree with Dr. Berryman. The caliecstasis could be the early finding of hydronephrosis which is commonly caused by a stone at ureterovesical junction. A dilated ureter above the stone location may be detected by ultrasound. However, a mild ureteropelvic malformation (a congenital condition) may also cause mild caliectasis. If you have typical renal colic, stone is the cause. You need a CT exam.

If this is an ultrasound exam report then you need CT- Urogram for a more precise reason for the obstruction of the urine flow in the urinary tube which brings urine from kidney to the bladder (ureter) Caliectasia is a dilatation of the system which collects urine in the kidney. Likely there is a stone in the lower part of the Ureter.
