Is surgery the usual route for a small upj obstruction if it only causes occasional mild to moderate flank pain or are there any nonsurgical treatments? my urologist said surgery if it was a stone, but no stone showed up in my ureter on ct scan?

if your symptoms are tolerable and you do not want surgery you have that choice but have a close follow up with a Urologist. Good luck
