A member asked:

I work in healthcare and work 12 hour shifts. i have mild lower ankle and leg swelling. is this normal or a sign of heart of renal failure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Standing or sitting for a long time can give lower leg edema due to stasis (gravity and stationary posture preventing adequate return of circulation ) it is not a sign of heart or renal failure. Elevate your feet and legs for a few minutes at work and wear well fitting elastic stockings. You will be fine. Keep up the good work!
