Edema CHF?: The reason you are both having edema is in part related to eating more sodium(Na) than your kidneys can get rid of. There are many causes and you need to find out as treatment will differ widely. I recommend USING the app Cronometer to track Na intake to see where the Na is coming from. Your daily goal should be <1,500 mg Na. Discuss results with your team. Keep them and us posted.

A 25-year-old member asked:

What does nitroglycerin do during a heart attack?

Reduce pain: There is actually some debate about the use of nitroglycerine in the setting of all heart attacks. It is known that nitroglycerine dilates the veins and to a lesser extent the arteries and sort of "unloads" the heart. As such it will make it easier for the heart to pump under the stressful circumstances of a heart attack. However, when the blood pressure is low, it is not a good idea.

Okay: Lemon and honey, cayenne pepper laced broths, peppermint extract in warm liquids, a little burbon with honey, perhaps cold liquids, ice creams, sorbets etc, hot lemonade (with a bit of bourbon), and I am sure there are a few herbals that can be used.

I suffer immensely from allergies. Itchy eyes.. Light sensitivity, blurred vision and rapid heart beat. I I don't know what i'm allergic to?

See an allergist: The symptoms you describe sound like allergies (except for the rapid heart beat). An allergist can teat you to determine what specific allergy you have. Additionally, you should have your primary care doctor evaluate your racing heart. In fact, this should be dealt with before the allergies are checked.

Bad lower leg pain when walking. How can you tell if it is a nerve or circulation problem?

Dr. Bennett Burns

Time to relief: Most vascular problems cramp with duration of walking and respond over 2-5 minutes to rest. "neurogenic claudication" or pinched nerves from back arthritis come on more slowly, take longer to respond (try sitting) and feel better if you lean on a shopping cart, etc. Nerve pain from disc usually worse with sitting, and better standing up. However, these are not hard rules. Get it looked at!
