Prostatitis can raise the PSA. It can come from infection or inflammation. A raised PSA should be evaluated by an urologist

Any condition of the prostate like infection or vigorous rectal exam can cause it. But in this situation it is best to see a Urologist for further evaluation

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, Benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostatitis can cause elevated PSA. Wish you good health!
