Kidney infections are marked by fever and chills and are uncommon, while Bladder infections are common and recurrent. Your primary can do a Urine C&S and treat you accordingly. You should drink plenty of water, empty your bladder when you get the urge, avoid constipation, keep the vulvo-vag. area clean empty bladder after sex and try cranberry juice. Good luck.

You should have at least a CT of the abdomen and pelvis in the mean time provided your kidney function is normal and you are not allergic to iodine. If CT is negative and urologist is the specialist who will see you later, cystoscopy will be done to rule out bladder pathology as the cause of recurrent bladder infection and ascending kidney infection. Follow Dr. Tandan's advice if all tests are (-)
